Lancaster Livestock Auction: Lancaster Auction Mart Weekly Sale of Calves, OTM Cattle & Store Cattle, Friday 15th August 2025.

CALVES 

Calf trade continues to deliver at NWA Lancaster, with a younger show of calves forward than recent weeks.
Bull calves sold to £960 for a British Blue from G&ME Woodhouse, Ellel who sold Aberdeen Angus bulls to £850. JM&MH France, Littledale sold Inra 95 to £840 whilst JP&C Robson, Brock reached £810 for their six week old British Blue. Limousin bulls achieved £800 from Hannah Kent, Cockerham. T&CM Kelsall presented a run of two week old calves, these reaching £400 for Aberdeen Angus on three occasions.
Very few heifer calves in this week, selling to £570 for a British Blue from JP&C Robson, Brock with one month old Limousin to £560 from AD&RL Milner, Brock. Aberdeen Angus sold to £540 from Wallbank Farms.

CAST / OTM CATTLE

The weekly sale of OTM cattle saw trade vary similar on the week, just a few less forward with many farmers taking advantage of the current settled weather to get crops in.
OTM steers always have plenty of demand in the bottom ring with more numbers required each week. These today would see JD EM JA Atkinson, Kendal selling their Aberdeen Angus steers to 374.5p/kg or £2584.05, with other Angus OTMs to 364.5p/kg from R & D Kellet, Cockerham. While British Blues from R & K Jenkinson, Pilling achieved 379.5p/kg. Other Blue OTM steers sold to 359.5p/kg from J Lamb, Old Glasson.
OTM cows saw Friesians top at £2361.25 or 284.5p/kg with other dairy bred OTM cows at £2305 or 279.5p/kg from PW & JM Norris, Hornby. All Friesian OTMS today averaged 252.24p/kg.
Beef bred OTM cows from R & D Kellet, Pilling sold to £2324.78 or 334.5p/kg for a Hereford. British Blues sold a to 279.5p/kg from Pilling Hall, Pilling.
A few more OTM heifers about today, £2239.17 would be top price per head for a Friesian from JK & BJ Birkett & Son, Morecambe. Other Friesian OTM from Drinkall Bros, Over Wyresdale sold to £2064.14. Plenty of OTM dairy bred heifers were round the 310p/kg - 320pp/kg mark.
Beef bred OTMs sold to 364.5p/kg for British Blues from AJ & D Knowles, New Hutton with others from the same good home to 349.5p/kg.
An overall average today of 283.41p/kg was achieved, with buyers asking for more cattle to fill their order books.

STORE CATTLE

Well, you certainly needed your factor 50 on today, and I’m not talking abut the hot weather outside. The trade in the main ring was scorching from the first beast in the ring to the very last. A few less about but definitely a more meated show of cattle. I&ME Askew, New Hutton saw his tremendous Aberdeen Angus steer achieve £2580. While local Lancaster supporter A&E Clarkson, Thurnham saw their pen of three Aberdeen Angus sell to £2500, as did T Robson & Son, Singleton for his pen of four. Other well farmed Aberdeen Angus steers sold to £2480 from R Escolme, Bay Horse, EW&CR Clegg, Stalmine and I&ME Askew, New Hutton. A Kirkby, Pilling weekly consignment saw his Hereford steers to £2520. Other Herefords from DR Preston, Caton saw his consignment of well grown cattle top at £2420, while A&E Clarkson continued their good days trading at £2450 for British Blues. Limousin steers sold to £2420 from AT Burrow & Son, Gressingham. Dairy bred steers sold to £2180 for Norwegian Red and Fleckvieh from DR Preston, Caton. Others sold to £2400 from DJ&MC Platts, Caton with Shorthorn to the same price from R Townson, Freckleton. Numerous other pens of steers at 21-22 months were around the £2100 to £2200 mark, whilst other younger 18 month old steers were well sold round the £1800 to £1900 mark. All steers today averaged £2161.
No let up in trade for store heifers, as pen after pen would break the £2300 barrier, and saw an average of £2071. Aberdeen Angus cattle again sitting top of the league at £2450 from I&ME Askew, New Hutton not far behind regular consigner SH&LE Birkett, Carnforth at £2320 for a pen of four, while a ring full from DR Preston, Caton sold to £2320. A trio of smart Charolais heifers from DJ Townley, Stodday saw a final bid of £2750. GA&A Atkinson, Cantsfield sold their stylish British Blue heifers to £2300, with other Blue heifers to £2280 from WT Eastham & Son, Goosnargh. Limousin heifers from TE JS & SA Carruthers sold to £2250. Herefords sold to £2120 from AT Burrow & Son. All heifers today averaged £2070.
Just a handful of store bulls in today, with these looking very well sold to a top price of £1680 for Aberdeen Angus from J Pendlebury, Manchester.
